Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) goes High-Tech

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) celebrated it’s 202nd anniversary recently. Much has happened since then. I remember going to the PDRM Museum near the Lake Gardens when I was a wee boy and admired all the courageous work done by the men in khaki pants and light blue shirt (then) and now they are the MIBs, nope not men in black but men in blues.

I also realised now our boys are well equipped during crime prevention rounds. In each Proton Waja MPV (nope not multi purpose vehicle but mobile Police vehicle), they are equipped with a laptop that links directly to all government agencies. Say they want to check the expiry date of a car’s road tax and insurance they are tailing, a few key strokes later VOILA! You are wanted in seven states for armed robberies, extortions and so on and so forth. High-tech eh? And also, I remember our boys use to carry pea shooters around. Come on, a snub nose .38 Smith & Wesson? What are you trying to shoot? Apples?

Now I see most of our boys carry a semi-automatic .45 in their holsters. And also, those riding shotgun in MPVs are equipped with a Heckler & Koch MP5. Even with that I pity the boys in blue. Wanna know why? Because we carry sub-machine guns, the bad boys armed themselves with assault rifles. We arm our boys with assualt rifles the bad guys carry general purpose machine guns.

Who said Police work is easy? And I pity the boys at point that I feel they are overworked and underpaid. You want the boys stop taking “duit kopis”? Increase the wages. You want more races other than Malays to join the force? Entice with good benefits. Not the benefits I get shot dead and family gets RM250 thousand and thats it.

No matter what, kudos to our boys. Happy 202nd annivesary.

When driving in Highway or any Federal Road area be careful of grey dustbins at the side of the road. Just in case you think you are driving around without anyone knowing, this might happen to you!

You never know that how our ‘high-tech’ policeman get photos of your speeding car nowadays. Just take a look at the pictures.

Anyway when you can really see the bin, it may be to late to reduce your speed.
