They make it 'cause we buy it: NASCAR flash drives

No sport offers up a more bewildering array of souvenir crap memorabilia than NASCAR, and They Make It digs deep into the corners of the Internet to bring all that strangeness to light. Today: computing goodness in a familiar package.

The item: NASCAR flash drives, 4GB of computing goodness in a tiny package for $24.99 from the NASCAR Superstore.

The deal: Oh my sweet heaven! We went and tore apart a Car of Tomorrow, and look what we found inside! It's nothing but a giant USB drive! That's not American! That's not even Japanese! That's just flat wrong, is what that is! NASCAR's lost touch with the everyday fan, man, making cars out of computer parts! I'm leaving this sport and I'm never coming back!

Wait, what? This is a miniature car? Oh, right. Never mind. Anyway, what we have here is a little USB drive shaped like a car. Yeah, that's about it. There are only two versions right now, the Jimmie Johnson one pictured at left and a Dale Earnhardt Jr. model. If I were you, I'd go with the #48, since the #88 would probably crash your entire computer and then say it was your fault. Ha ha! Get it?
